In Perpetuity
Top o' the mornin' to ya,
I'm Charlie.
Environmentalist, sailor, romantic, cook, musician and livin' la vida local!
Back in '97 I sustained a severe head injury that's left me with permanant balance difficulties, but has also given me a passion for life!
Everyone has a passion; it just needs to be released into consciousness...
My foremost passion is our planet. And, be honest, we haven't been treating it well. I'm not going to go on about how we need to change our ways and start living more sustainably, (we do by the way) but I just hope that by living that life myself and practicing what I preach that people will be inspired to do so themselves.
I used to be dead scared of sailing, when the boat heeled over I thought it would just keep going over, capsize and sink. Now I have my own yacht and deliberately set out, sometimes, to heel it over as far as she'll go, so that I am left standing on the rail. Awesome. Most of the time though, I just love getting from A to B without using an engine or putting any strain on myself or the planet.
In '07 I thought it'd be cool to learn the flute, I've been learning since Feb '08 and am really enjoying it. I'm also learning to play the piano, but a piano isn't the easiest of instruments to take on a boat. Again, what I most enjoy about the flute and piano is the fact that no outside input is required to produce the sound - it's just me and the instrument.
You may also hear me singing when I'm on the water or out walking, because life is awesome!
I took up cooking a while back. My favourite dish is a mushroom risotto. I love cooking it and I love eating it.
What I love about food is the culture, the enjoyment and sensual experience. I can't stand it when people eat dinner while watching TV, it's really an insult to the cook. To really enjoy the food I reckon you've got to stimulate all your senses. Get the recipe right, the presentation right and the ambience right and dinner is served...
My life has been shaped by many events, not least was my accident that left me fighting for my life. I survived that and have encountered many challenges since then. Overcoming each and moving forward has bought me to where I am today. Take a moment to read more "In a Moment", feel free to check out my photo's "In Retrospect" or check out the happenings and drop me a line "In Dialogue"...
